Meet Our Founder
Maria Eugenia Baco
Born and raised in the southern coastal city of Ponce, Maria Eugenia developed a love for travel from an early age, along with a deep appreciation for connection, culture, and creating meaningful experiences. A proud graduate of Boston College with a degree in Communications, she began her career in New York City working in marketing and public relations and now resides in Miami with her husband and three children.
Over the years, her passion for exploring the world has taken her across North America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Central America, and South America. With extensive global travel experience and deep roots in Puerto Rico, she brings both a worldly perspective and a natural affinity for the Caribbean’s most sought-after destinations.
As a wife, mother of three, and avid mahjong enthusiast, she created Mahj Escapes to bring together her love of luxury travel, hospitality, and the connection that happens around a mahjong table. Her vision is to create unforgettable experiences where guests can travel beautifully, build meaningful relationships, and make lasting memories.
